Like most Montanans, Nick Chaussee has a few irons in the fire.
In addition to being a full time broker with Sterling Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Advisors, he’s also studying for the CCIM designation and co-owns a metal fabrication company.
(Not sure how to pronounce Chaussee? Just think show-say.).
Initially on track for a Finance degree at the University of Montana, Nick shifted his plans when a Big Data course galvanized his interest in real estate. His passion for finance, combined with his family history in construction of multifamily housing, made the CRE world a natural fit.
“Commercial real estate is a lot of back and forth, which I like,” Nick says. “Especially with larger properties, there are a lot of complexities to every deal.” The Sterling Standard, a lengthy checklist of steps tailored to each client, helps Nick bring together mutually beneficial transactions.
Studying for the CCIM in conjunction with work makes sense: Nick says he’s already used his coursework for deals ranging from small leases to large sales. While this arrangement is efficient, the demanding CCIM program keeps Nick on his toes.
“Balancing work and studying is pretty intense. But it’s worth it- the background in CRE negotiations, investment analysis, and market knowledge is valuable every day at work.”
When Nick does have a free minute, he’s hitting the links or hiking with his wife and two dogs. Having split the majority of his childhood between Western Washington and Montana, he is eager to see Trader Joes come to Missoula. But he’s willing to make the trek for cookie butter until enough Missoulians raise their voices.
